A MAN has suffered a serious head injury after being assaulted in Bolton Town Centre this afternoon.

Police have arrested a male on suspicion of causing the injuries to the man, who was found in an area of grassland at the junction of Bark Street and Pool Street just before 4pm.

The victim, aged in his mid-forties, was taken to the Royal Bolton Hospital and was said to be bleeding from his head and dropping in and out of consciousness. 

In the last five minutes police have confirmed they have made an arrest and a male has been taken into custody for questioning.

The grassy area where the incident took place has been cordoned off and officers remain at the scene.

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said: "We can confirm that a man has been taken to hospital with head injuries after what we believe is an assault.

"We have arrested a male who is currently being questioned at a police station."
