POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a fire at a service station in Little Hulton.

Fire crews were called to Cleggs Lane Service Station in Cleggs Lane, at around 1am on Friday, July 15.

There was damage to the roof and the inside of the shop, however there were no injuries.

The fire service was able to confirm this was a deliberate ignition and asked police to investigate.

Detective constable Gary Graham from GMP’s Salford CID said: “This could have been so much worse. The fire could have easily spread to the petrol station and then we could have been talking about the loss of lives and property.

“We are appealing for anyone who may have any information or have noticed anything unusual to come forward. Any bit of information could be vital to the investigation.”

Anyone with any information is asked to contact police on 0161 856 5049, 101 or via the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
