AN AGENCY which cares for adults in the community has been rated "good" by the Care Quality Commission

The Local Care Company (Bolton) Limited, based in Chorley Old Road provides personal care for adults in their own homes.

An inspection took place on June 14 with inspectors speaking with staff and people who used the service, as well as visiting two people who use the service in their own home.

The service was found to be safe, effective, caring and well-led, but needing improvement in responsiveness.

The report stated: "People we spoke with told us they felt safe as a result of the care they received. One person said to us; 'I feel absolutely safe. The staff always check that I am alright'.

"People were protected against the risks of abuse because the service had a robust recruitment procedure in place.

"We saw staff had received training in subjects such as safeguarding, moving and handling, medication, health and safety and fire safety.

"People who used the service spoke favourably about the staff who cared for them. People told us they found the staff to be caring.

"The staff we spoke with told us they enjoyed their work and that the Local Care Company were good to work for.

"One member of staff said; "I really do enjoy my job. There is very good continuity so we get to know people well"."

At the time of the inspection the company provided care and support to approximately 84 people and employed approximately 50 members of staff.

However, inspectors found that care plans did not provide a break-down of all the detailed information needed to deliver care for individuals, including likes, dislikes and social histories.

The company showed inspectors a new care plan, where the information could be recorded, which would be used by staff in future.

In their July satisfaction survey the company also responds to concerns raised by service users, including medication not being delivered on time.
