POLICE were called to deal with a man who was sat on the wrong side of a bridge over a railway cutting through Bolton yesterday.

Officers were called to the bridge in Black Horse Street, near the Morrisons superstore, at 9.10pm on Sunday, July 25.

They found a man sat on the wrong side of the bridge that passes over the railway line below.

Specialist officers from Greater Manchester Police were able to talk the man down from the bridge around 50 minutes later.

He was uninjured but was taken to hospital by ambulance as a precaution.

An eyewitness said: “I passed a big police taped off area around 10pm, next to Morrisons petrol station.

“There were at least four police cars and three ambulances and a van from Network Rail.”

Another eyewitness said: “There's a man sat on a bridge threatening to jump in front of a train behind Morrisons in the town centre. Police have cordoned off the area and are on the scene.”

A police spokesman said: “Officers were concerned for the welfare of a man who was sat on the wrong side of the bridge.

“We arrived and sent in specialist officers to talk to the man. The man did eventually come down at around 10pm.”

Network Rail said there were significant delays as a result of the incident.
