A BLACKROD road is set to be resurfaced five years on from when work was first planned.

Harrison Crescent had been earmarked for resurfacing work in 2011 but Government cuts meant that Bolton Council had to shelve the scheme.

However, after a recent inspection, it has been decided that the poor state of the road in the area needs addressing.

Horwich and Blackrod ward Councillor Stephen Pickup said: “When I was first elected to the Council in 2010, I went into the Highways department and spoke with officers about the programme for the Ainse Road estate.

"This was due to be delivered in the following year, but following swingeing cuts to the grant Bolton Council receives from central Government, a number of proposed schemes, including this one, had to be put on hold as the Council’s Highways capital programme was scrapped. Harrison Crescent is in a very poor state of repair and I am pleased for residents that this street will now finally be brought up to the required standard.”

All streets in the borough are inspected at least annually, more often for main roads, with those in the worst condition programmed for resurfacing.
