CAMPAIGNERS are hoping people in Bolton will rally round a protest against Government cuts.

Protestors are expected to descend on Oxford Street on Saturday, September 3, as part of a 'Bolton Save Our NHS' demonstration.

The event has been jointly organised by groups including 38 Degrees Manchester, Bolton Trades Council, Bolton Unison and Bolton Unite.

The campaign is protesting against Government cuts which will leave a financial gap of £162 million for health and care in Bolton by 2020.

Christine Howarth, Bolton representative for 38 Degrees Manchester, said the cuts would greatly affect services in Bolton but members of the public were still unaware of how great the impact would be.

She added: "We are hoping to have a good turn out.

"The Locality Plans are not very well-known. I am quite wary of the enormous cuts coming at a moment when the NHS is already in crisis, this is why we want to draw it to the attention of the people of Bolton.

"A lot of the publicity over this has been positive, about a change from a reactive service to a proactive one, but they belie the seriousness of the cuts.

"We want to give another view of what is happening with the cuts."

Taking place between noon and 3pm adjacent to Bolton's Fred Dibnah statue, protestors will be waving placards and signs alongside a Samba band.

There will also be a short play - a farce looking at Secretary of State for Health Jeremy Hunt's changes to the NHS - and games.

Protestors will also be looking for people to sign a petition urging Chairman of NHS Bolton Clinical Commissioning Group, Wirin Bhatiani, asking him to help halt the cuts.

Bolton MPs Yasmin Qureshi and David Crausby will also be speaking at the event.

Mr Crausby said he was concerned for the future of the NHS and urged people to attend the rally.

Ms Qureshi added: "These cuts will have an impact on health services provisions for people in Bolton, therefore we must protest most aggressively against these cuts.

"I would encourage everybody to turn up."
