THE new Apple iPhone7 is creating a “buzz” in the town, mobile phone retailers have said.

Dubbed as the ‘Marmite of phones’, the new handset has been stocked in stores since yesterday.

It is water resistant, has double the internal capacity and an improved camera amongst other features.

However, some Apple users have been unimpressed by the lack of upgrade from the last device and the fact that the phone no longer has an earphone socket — a move believed to be to encourage buyers to purchase wireless headphones.

Nevertheless, mobile phone firms have spoken of impressive sales and busy stores and even sell outs.

Saj Miah, sales consultant, at Carphone Warehouse in Burnden Park, said: “Sales have been going really well. It has been a very popular handset for us. In the past two days, we have probably had 50 to 60 pre-orders for the handset.

“The silver iPhone has sold out in store and we now only have the rose gold one left.”

A sales assistant in Vodafone, in Deansgate, has also spoken of the iPhone’s successful launch.

He said: “No other phone creates this much of a buzz.

“We have had people coming in just to see it or touch it. There is a bit of an aura about a new iPhone.

“We have been a lot busier in store but obviously because of how sales are now a lot is done online and through pre-orders.”

Apple has also revealed that it will soon be launching a new version of its Apple Watch.
