NO celebration would be complete without cake so Pikes Lane Primary School ensured there was plenty by staging a bake off.

The school in Deane was marked outstanding by Ofsted just before the summer break.

So to celebrate and raise money for Macmillan Cancer Care, a bake off between parents with help from their children and staff was held.

And visitors were invited into school to try and slice and pass judgement.

Vicki Wallace, extended services and pupil welfare manager, said: “The school received outstanding and we have not yet had a chance to celebrate.

“Getting outstanding means a lot to staff and parents.

“We used the event to raise money for MacMillan as part of their coffee morning.

“We has crowds of parents come into school before picking up their children and then came back with their children.

“It was really nice for parents to come into school on this really nice occasion to share with staff and children and raise money for charity.”

Money from the event along with a non-uniform day is still being counted and will be donated to Macmillan Cancer Care.
