A DRIVER had to be cut free from his car after a three vehicle smash in Astley Bridge.

A man in his 40s became trapped in his blue Toyota Yaris after a crash at the junction of Blackburn Road and Seymour Road, which also involved a silver Toyota Hilux truck and a VW Golf.

Police and fire crews were called to the scene of the crash just before 3pm and treated the man for neck injuries, which are not believed to be serious.

Witness Lewis Forbes said he saw the immediate aftermath of the crash.

He said: "It looks like one of the cars has come round the corner and gone straight into one of the others.

"We saw the man being cut out of his car by firefighters."

Police have closed Seymour Street following the incident.

A spokesman for GMP said: "A man in his 40s was cut out of a blue Toyota Yaris following a three-car crash in Seymour Road.

"He suffered neck injuries, which are not thought to be serious."
