A TOUCH of Hollywood came to Bradshaw as more than 3,000 people enjoyed a fireworks display with a difference

Organisers wanted to give spectators an extra thrill at the annual autumn event held at Bradshaw Cricket Club, in Rigby Lane, and so decided to set the 22-minute display to music.

Display co-ordinator Mike Buckley chose music from blockbuster movie Independence Day and choreographed the display to match the soundtrack.

The event was a smash-hit, said club officials, who are hoping to equal the £5,000 they raised from the 2015 display, with cash going towards club funds.

Club chairman Steven Dickinson said: "The police were there to keep an eye on things and there were no incidents throughout the evening. Everyone was safe and enjoyed a great night.

"Mike did a fantastic job of organising the night, from the fireworks to the security and funfair. It went really well."

Explaining the theme, Mr Dickinson added: "Last year, we set some of the display to the music from the Sorcerer's Apprentice and people loved it, so we decided to do the whole thing that way year this year, to add a bit of variety.

"It's a wonderful night for the community, and holding our display early means people can have their own displays at home nearer to Bonfire Night."

Teresa Neary, of Old Barn Place, Bromley Cross, said: "We took three of our children along and they always have a great time at the display and particularly enjoy the funfair and the stalls.

"It's always a lovely atmosphere when we come."

Mr Dickinson added: "We had 20 volunteers turning out to help, which is the most we've ever had.

"We're delighted that so many people are helping the club to achieve its aims.

"I would like to say a special thanks to Mike for his efforts."

Club helpers will now turn their attentions to organising their annual Christmas dinner for younger players and for their April beer festival.
