NEXT year will be the 20th anniversary of Wanderers’ move from their spiritual home at Burnden Park.

And to mark the occasion we want you the readers to pick the best all-time XI to play at the iconic ground.

Throughout Burnden's history the Bolton Evening News was there to chronicle all the highs and lows.

The newspaper has its own milestone next year when it will celebrate its 150th anniversary, and to kick off a very special year we want to honour the greatest heroes to have pulled on a Wanderers shirt on the hallowed turf.

Narrowing down a list will not be an easy task. Fans can take their pick from some famous names including David Jack, Dick Pym, Ted Vizard and Joe Smith from the FA Cup-conquering sides of the 1920s, the Wartime Wanderers including Harry Goslin and Ray Westwood, which led to the treasured team of the fifties – Nat Lofthouse, Roy Hartle, Tommy Banks and Eddie Hopkinson.

The swaggering sixties and seventies brought us Frank Worthington, Franny Lee, Peter Thompson, Sam Allardyce, John Byrom, Peter Reid and Paul Jones, while the later years saw the White Hot era create legends like John McGinlay, Andy Walker, David Lee and Keith Branagan.

And then who to guide them? Charles Foweraker – Wanderers’ longest-serving manager – or perhaps Bill Ridding, mastermind of the 1958 FA Cup win against Manchester United. Maybe Jimmy Armfield or Ian Greaves gets your vote? Or the latter day Burnden bosses like Bruce Rioch or Colin Todd?

With the help of our readers and a special panel of judges, we want to create an all-time Burnden Park XI, which will eventually be put to a vote.

The first step is to gather all the potential candidates. We want you to send in a shortlist of the names you think should be considered.

The plan will be to name one MANAGER, one GOALKEEPER, four DEFENDERS, three MIDFIELDERS and three FORWARDS, plus three SUBSTITUTES.

There will be no restriction on what type of defender – i.e. you could name four centre-halves, or four full-backs if you so wish.

Players from any era can qualify, just as long as they represented Bolton Wanderers between 1895, when the ground opened to the public, and the end of the 1996/1997 season.

The names will be collated and brought before a panel of specialist judges closer to Christmas, with the aim of reducing the list to a final shortlist. The final team will then be voted for by the readers via an online poll.

We will be publishing the team in a souvenir pull-out in January and also providing Wanderers with a special framed version to display at the Macron.
