THOUSANDS will gather across Bolton on Sunday to remember those who lost their lives during the First and Second World Wars and other global conflicts.

Residents, councillors, local groups, and ex-servicemen will come together to mark Remembrance Day.

Remembrance services will take place at the following places on November 13:

Horwich

A parade will assemble in Ramsbottom Road outside Horwich R.M.I Club at 11.30am and will set off at 11.40am.

The service of remembrance will take place in the Garden of Remembrance, Lever Park Avenue at 12.15pm.

The parade will be covered by temporary road closures and marshalled and the route will be along Ramsbottom Road/Victoria Road, Church Street and Lee Lane, then on to Lever Park Avenue for the Service of Remembrance and then returning to Horwich RMI.

The town mayor will also lay a wreath at the Locomotive Estate Memorial at 11am.

The Royal British Legion will also be laying a wreath in the council chamber following the two-minute silence, which will be observed outside the public hall on Armistice Day, November 11 at 11am.

Westhoughton

The Parade will assemble outside the St Bartholomew’s CE Primary School Yard, The Fairways, at 9.20am to set off at 9.40am.

It will march up Church Street, along Lord Street, The Avenue, Central Drive, Bolton Road and Market Street, returning to the St Bartholomew’s CE Primary School yard.

There will then be a Service of Remembrance at 10am at St Bartholomew’s Church, followed by another short service at the War Memorial at 10.45am.

Blackrod

Those wanting to pay their respects are to meet outside Heroes Bar for 2pm for a service at the war memorial.

Following this there will then be a march through the town to St Katharine's Church for a service at 3pm.

Warm refreshments are served afterwards, for those who have walked.

Farnworth

A parade will march from Brackley Street at 10am.

The parade will proceed from Brackley Street to Market Street and to the war memorial in Farnworth Park, where there will be a service and a wreath laying.

The service will finish at around 11.15am when there will be a march back to De Havilland Club.

Kearsley

Meet at Kearsley Cricket Club in Springfield Road, Kearsley, at 9.15am.

The procession will leave at 9.30am for the Kearsley War Memorial outside the old town hall in Bolton Road, Kearsley.

There will be a remembrance service afterwards at St Stephen’s Church in Manchester Road, Kearsley, which will begin between 10.15am and 10.30am.

Bolton

On November 11, the Mayor of Bolton, Cllr Lynda Byrne, will join war veterans and members of the public on Victoria Square for a short service to mark Armistice Day.

The service will start at 10.45am and include a two minutes silence.

On Sunday, November 13, the Mayor of Bolton will lead civic guests and veterans from the town hall on to Victoria Square for the Remembrance Sunday service, which begins at 10.45am.

Local Territorial Army officers will also lead a parade of veterans, members of various communities and representatives from the police and fire service taking part.

The Vicar of Bolton, Reverend Matt Thompson, will conduct the service.

The service will also include a traditional two-minute silence marked by gunfire, which will start at 11am, after the Last Post is played.

There will be short prayers after the silence and the service will conclude with the ceremonial wreath laying National Anthem.

Bromley Cross

A parade to Walmsley Parish Church will assemble at Dunscar Health Centre at 9.30am.

There will then be a church service at 10am in Walmsley Parish Church followed by another service, wreath-laying and silence at 10.45am at Dunscar War Memorial.

Little Lever

There will be a service at Saint Matthew's Church in Little Lever at 9.30am.

Following the service there will be a walk up to the war memorial at Little Lever Library where there will be another service.
