THE victims of the Holocaust will be remembered at a special service taking place later this month.

Holocaust Memorial Day will take place on Wednesday, January 25 at the University Technical College Bolton.

The service is organised by Bolton Interfaith Council, Bolton Council and supported by schools, civic, faith and community leaders.

The Vicar of Bolton, Canon Matt Thompson, will lead the ceremony and there will be readings by the Mayor of Bolton, Cliff Morris, Rabi Lever, schoolchildren and members of the community.

A number of schools have been working on an art project for the service which will be displayed alongside artwork completed by Bolton at Home’s Drummond Street Housing Project called the Remembrance Group.

Chan Parmar, strategic officer for Bolton Interfaith Council, said: “The theme this year is ‘How can life go on?’ which is a positive way of how, despite all the suffering and the loss of home, identity and loved ones, people have still gone on a made a good life for themselves and contributed to the goodness of community.

“It is very important to learn from the disastrous impact of the Holocaust and other atrocities upon the innocent victims.

“Sadly, the ongoing events in Middle East and other parts of the world remind us of the evil and hatred which exists in our world today.

“On a positive note, there is a lot of goodwill and commitment which allows us to do the best we can for the victims. Hence these events are good for our community to come together in unity.”
