A MOTORIST has denied killing a community champion by knocking him down in his car.
Callum Smedley entered a not guilty plea at Bolton Crown Court yesterday to a single count of causing the death of Harold Daniels by careless driving.
Mr Daniels, aged 82, died following a collision in Chorley Road, Westhoughton, on June 4 last year.
Mr Daniels, who had been made an MBE, had been chairman of Westhoughton Community Network and past president of the Rotary Club of Westhoughton.
Smedley, of Wigan Road, Westhoughton, will stand trial at the crown court on August 21.
The 29-year-old was granted unconditional bail.
