SHOCKING photographs of a 13-year-old girl, who was knocked down by a car, have been released by her family.

Louise Jones suffered two broken legs and facial injuries when she was struck by the white Fiat 500 in Bury Road, Breightmet, last Thursday.

It is thought the car’s wing mirror hit her before the vehicle rolled over her legs, breaking both of them.

Louise was treated by paramedics at the scene before being taken to hospital.

She is now receiving treatment at the Royal Manchester Infirmary, where she was taken to assess the injuries to her head.

The incident happened as Louise attempted to cross Bury Road close to the B J Food, News and Wine off-licence, at the junction with Blenheim Road.

Her 32-year-old mother Debra Leyland said: “I only heard about it when I had lots of phone calls and lots of people messaging me.

“I was just in shock. She has broken both of her legs, she has a swollen eye and she’s been sent to the hospital in Manchester because of her head injuries.

“I think she’ll be in there for quite a while but she’s doing ok now and she’s on plenty of drugs to help with the pain.

“We are so lucky it was the wing mirror that struck her. If it was the whole car that hit her it could have been a lot worse. I’m just glad the injuries to her head aren’t worse.”

Louise lives in Slaidburn Avenue, Breightmet, with her mum, twin sister Lauren, older brothers Byron and Cameron, aged 16 and 14, and her six-month-old baby brother Isaac Lee.

Ms Leyland said the accident had taken its toll on the whole family.

She said: “She’s obviously in some pain and she’s a bit shaken and the whole family is too. She’s in Manchester at the moment so we have to keep travelling to visit her.

“But she’ll make a good recovery. She’ll be ok.”

In a statement, Greater Manchester Police said the collision happened at about 4.30pm on February 9.

The 83-year-old driver of the Fiat remained at the scene to assist officers while traffic was diverted along Blenheim Road.

Inquiries are ongoing and police are appealing for witnesses or anyone with any information to come forward.
