BUDDING young goalkeepers were in safe hands over Easter as they took part in a special course for shot-stoppers run by Bolton Wanderers Community Trust.

The sessions were held at Trotters’ training ground in Lostock, where coaches for the Whites academy put them through their paces.

A total of 14 youngsters aged between five and 15 signed up for the four-day programme, with both boys and girls turning up to sharpen up their skills between the sticks.

The goalkeeping ‘clinic’ ran for five hours each day, with work beginning at 10am and coming to a close at 3pm.

James Ward, of Bolton Wanderers Community Trust, said the youngsters who signed up for the course got ‘a real experience’ out of it.

He said: “It’s been fantastic to put something specific on for goalkeepers. It’s such a specific position it needs its own focus. I’m really glad we can cater for that and the feedback has been brilliant.

“Hopefully it can continue to grow and become the success we want it to be.”

He added that it had also given youngsters a chance to catch the eye of the coaches and put themselves ‘in the shop window’.
