FAMILIES flocked to Westhoughton for an annual Easter fun day.

Around 200 visitors went along to the market on Saturday and met beloved children’s TV characters Iggle Piggle and Upsy Daisy from In The Night Garden.

And animal lovers were not disappointed as Little Barn Mobile Farm brought along pigs, calves and rabbits for the youngsters to pet.

Event organiser Brad Hargreaves said: “We are just trying to bring the community together.

“We have had some of the big supermarkets come and set up in the area so there are people who aren’t coming into Market Street.

“So my aim with events like this is to bring people back into Westhoughton town centre.”

Visitors also got competitive and took part in an Easter egg hunt and those who competed were rewarded with a full-size chocolate egg.

But the event was so popular that organisers ran out of the 160 eggs they had bought for the hunt and had to scramble around town at the last minute to buy more.

Mr Hargreaves said: “It was a brilliant event and we have got some good feedback from people.

“It was definitely one of our best events to date. There were a lot of children and we have had plenty of pictures posted on our Facebook page. It was just great.”

He also wished to thank Westhoughton Active Communities Organisation for donating £100 towards the event.
