THE driver of a car that smashed in a to a tree is now in a stable condition in hospital.
The car crashed in to the tree in Southfield Drive, Westhoughton, at around 1.20am on Monday.
The driver had been in a critical condition after sustaining a number of fractures to his left leg, pelvis, ribs and jaw.
He also suffered internal bleeding in the crash with medics saying his injuries were potentially life-threatening.
Today, a police spokesman said that the 39-year-old male driver is now in a stable condition.

A 43-year-old passenger also suffered a broken arm in the crash.
Residents rushed out of their homes after being awoken by a loud bang after the car hit the tree.
