POLICE are investigating a vicious street assault which left a man needing hospital treatment.
Three men set upon the victim in Yewdale Avenue, Breightmet before running off. Police and the ambulance services both attended the incident.
Officers were called to the street shortly after 12.30am on April 26 following reports that a man had been hit in the face and legs with a weapon.
The ambulance service confirmed that it was called to the area between 12.30am and 1am that morning and treated a man for head injuries before taking him to Salford Royal Hospital.
Residents in the area were disturbed by the incident. One person who lived in the street, who did not wish to be named, said that there was a lot of ‘commotion’ in the area before officers arrived on the scene.
Another resident said: “There was a lot of noise, I didn’t really know what was going on.
“It was all over pretty quickly though and then the police arrived.”
One resident told The Bolton News that the victim, who has not been named, had been attacked with a hammer but police were unable to confirm what weapon was used.
Police are still appealing for anyone with information about the incident to contact them on 101 and quote incident number 39 of April 26.
Alternatively, people can contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
