A MOTHER who collapsed in Benidorm on a hen do has died after fighting for her life for 13 days.

Mandy Farrell, aged 48, suffered an aneurysm in her brain on the morning of Saturday April 29 and went into intensive care.

Her son, Kieran Howlett, posted an emotional message on Facebook at the weekend saying his mother, who was his "best friend", had died in hospital on Friday.

Mr Howlett, aged 26, said: “We got the news that we really didn't want to hear, she fought hard for 13 days and I got to have a chat with her every single day.

“I got to look into her eyes, and that's something I didn't expect to ever do again.

“Thank you to each person that prayed and sent messages of support because that's what kept her going for that amount of time.

“My mum even surprised doctors at how much she held on, how much she showed us she wanted to remain with her family.

“On Thursday I was by her side with my dad and she stared into my eyes for about 10 seconds and I believe that was my mum saying goodbye.

“To get that was just amazing, as heartbroken as I am, I'm going to make my mum proud, I'm going to be strong for the amazing family and people I have around me.”

Mrs Farrell had been drinking coffee in the bar at the Hotel Marina when she clutched her head and told her friend: “I think I’m dying.”

The mother-of-two, who worked for her husband’s stonemasonry business and as a barmaid for FC United, was taken back to her room where she started being violently sick.

Paramedics were called and within minutes they arrived before she was taken into intensive care at Levante Hospital.

Mr Howlett added: “Now I'm just going to take some time to take in what's happened and be with the people that matter most, I'll never stop loving my mum, she honestly was my best friend and now is my time to show her how strong this family can be.

“I know there are going to be a lot of heartbroken people but she wouldn't want that she lived her life to the full, she had an amazing husband who I have the pleasure to call my dad, a beautiful little girl that she really would do absolutely anything for, and not to mention the rest of my family that have been stronger than ever.

“We love you mum, just like I've told you millions of times over the last few weeks.”
