TOO many people in Bolton are living “one pay check away from disaster”, according to the Green Party.
Liz Spencer, Green candidate in Bolton North East, believes that tackling all forms of poverty is the greatest challenge facing the borough ahead of Thursday’s General Election.
The 58-year-old, who has previously stood in local elections, says that voters are “conflicted” over who to chose on polling day.
She added: “There are people living well below the poverty line in Bolton North East and across the country.
“If you are suffering from extreme poverty then that is your main concern and it occupies all of your time.
“You have absolute poverty and relative poverty, but there is also the hidden poverty of apparent affluence. Teachers, nurses, and lots of other people are actually having to spend a huge amount of what would ordinarily be regarded as quite a good salary merely to survive day-to-day.
“They are living one pay check away from disaster.”
