A former Turton sixth form pupil could be about to storm the charts as part of a group dubbed the ultimate all girl band.

Sian Charlesworth is one of five girls from across the UK to be picked for what has been dubbed the ultimate all-girl band.

The 20-year-old, from Crown Point, Edgworth, Bolton, beat off competition from more than 2,000 hopefuls at the So? Superstar auditions.

Sian saw an advert placed by fragrance company So...? in the showbusiness paper, The Stage, and went for audtions in Nottingham.

She then went to the finals in London and impressed the judges so much she was picked for the group.

In six weeks they take to the studio to record their debut single, which is due to be released next year.

Sian has just completed her second year at the University of Leeds, where she studies Theatre and Performance.

Sian said: "I am really excited although it is a bit daunting, too. I don't really know what to expect.

"I'm not sure what will happen with my degree. I may try and postpone a year and see what happens with the band.

"I want to keep my feet on the ground and I know the industry is hard to break into."

She studied English, Theatre Studies and History at A-level, but has a passion for singing.

She added: "I have performed on stage, but I have never been in a recording studio before. I had a bit of singing training a few years ago and I have always wanted to be a performer.

"I was really shocked and overwhelmed when I was chosen. It's a great opportunity."

And there was praise from her former drama teachers at Turton, Jo Parr and Alison Ramsey, who said: "Having had a great start at Withins and continuing with us here at Turton, we quickly realised that Sian possessed real star quality.

"Her many talents were recognised and developed as she performed a number of memorable roles - we wish her every success for the future."

Kim Glover, who has worked with artists such as Whitney Houston, Aretha Franklin and New Kids on the Block, put the audition finalists through intensive workshops with a choreographer and voice coach before picking the best.

Kim was very impressed with Sian. She said: "She sang well and she really strutted her stuff and she just shone. She was a good dancer too."

Sian will move to London on July 20 to live with the other girls - Sheena Rowe, Sophie Leniston, Rebecca Doran, and Kristina Macmillan - where they will transform into the supergroup, which has not yet been named.
