MYSTERY still surrounds the death of a seven-week-old baby boy who stopped breathing at home.

An inquest heard Harvey Lee Adamson died on December 18 last year after attempts to revive him at Royal Bolton Hospital failed.

The hearing heard his mother Andrea Adamson, of Bridgeman Street, Bolton, fed him at 6.40am then lay him on the sofa in the downstairs living room before both fell asleep.

When she awoke a few minutes later, Harvey was not breathing and was limp, the hearing at Bolton Coroners Court was told.

Ms Adamson immediately called emergency services and attempted to resuscitate her son were made.

Further failed attempts in hospital meant that Harvey was pronounced dead at 8.30am.

A verdict of an open conclusion was recorded by assistant coroner Timothy Brennand yesterday.

The hearing heard how Harvey was born on October 29, four weeks premature, and with physical abnormalities on his hands and feet.

Because of this he was receiving a small amount of physiotherapy to straighten his limbs.

Consultant practitioner Sam Misra, who was on call when the ambulance arrived at Royal Bolton Hospital, said: “While it is clear that this is a case of sudden and unexpected death, I cannot give an obvious case of death.”

Forensic pathologist Dr Naomi Carter, who conducted the post-mortem, agreed she was unable to give a pathological cause of death.

She added that while there are some links to sudden death of infants who have unconventional sleeping arrangements, there was no evidence to suggest this was the case.

Senior paediatric physiotherapist Louise Horsely said that she saw ‘no signs whatsoever’ of any mistreatment or welfare issues.

Mr Brennand concluded: “The evidence that I have before me is insufficient for me to give any other conclusion other that of open.

“There was a window of co-sleeping that occurred but whether that was a contributory factor to death is unknown.

“This does not suggest in any way that Andrea Adamson is at fault in any way for the death of her son.

“In my opinion, a mother could not have done any more to help to try and save their son.”

Ms Adamson said her son was a ‘perfect addition to my family’ and that she had ‘wonderful memories of Harvey in his short life, ones that I will never forget.’
