AN INQUIRY into plans to build a controversial 300-home estate in Westhoughton will begin on Monday.

The long-awaited hearing into Persimmon Homes’ plans to develop land at Lee Hall is expected to last four days at Bolton Town Hall.

The controversial scheme was first rejected by Bolton Council in 2015, but the developer chose to appeal the decision.

Since then, the inquiry has been delayed twice — most recently when the council complained that Persimmon submitted its traffic models too late to allow for proper scrutiny.

As well as Persimmon, appeals have also been lodged by fellow developers Harcourt Developments and Peel Investments.
