A 16-YEAR-OLD schoolboy is in hospital following an assault.

Police were called to Lever Park Avenue, in Horwich, at about 7.40am this morning to reports a teenager had been badly injured.

A police spokesperson said that due to his 'demeanour and injuries' he was taken to hospital for treatment, where he still remains.

He is described as being 'poorly but stable'.

Another 16-year-old boy has been arrested in connection with the matter.

A police cordon was in place at the junction of Fearnhead Avenue and Lever Park Avenue from about 8am this morning, but was taken down at about 7.30pm.

One neighbour, who did not wish to be named, said: "I went out at about 7.15am in the car to get a newspaper, there was nobody about.

"But when I came back 15 minutes later there was a lad in the middle of the road and someone was assisting him.

"A man pulled his car across to stop traffic. He looked to be bleeding from the side of his head and perhaps his ear."

It's not yet clear whether the victim or his assailant had been to a school prom held at nearby Rivington Barn on Friday night.
