ASTLEY and Tyldesley skipper Jimmy Cutt starred with bat and ball as his side beat Hindley St Peters on Saturday to remain second in Division Two of the Greater Manchester Cricket League.

Fielding first, the Gin Pit outfit struggled to remove Hindley's top-end batsmen as Adam McGuire (24), Farhan Farhan (41) and Richard Whitehead (27) all hit decent knocks.

Carl Murphy then added 27 not out as the hosts achieved 182-8 after their 50 overs.

Cutt ended with the best figures of the A&T bowlers with 3-39, and then hit an unbeaten 89 to guide his side home with eight wickets in hand.

Nathan McDonnell provided good support with 68 not out.

The result left Astley and Tyldesley five points behind leaders Thornham.

In Division One, Edgworth continued their rich vein of form with victory at Dukinfield.

Clyde Fortuin was the key performer with the bat once again as he racked up 87.

Liam Watkinson also hit a half century while skipper Guy Haynes added 33.

Tom Flitcroft retired with 25 as the Bolton Road outfit posted 250-8.

The hosts gave the chase a good go as Neil Mistry (35) and Yohan De Silva (75) kept up the run rate early on.

However, a late collapse, forced by the bowling of Chris King (4-63) and Watkinson (3-39), meant Dukinfield fell 29 runs short.

Premier League champions Egerton fell to their fifth defeat of the season, going down by five wickets at home to Flixton.

Sahan Suraweera (46) and Matt Parkinson (41) batted well, but they were in the minority as only four batsmen made double figures for the Blackburn Road side in their total of 171-9.

Bolton-born Lancashire spinner Parkinson then took 3-47, but Flixton’s batting proved too powerful as they completed the chase with 10 overs to spare.

The result leaves Egerton just one place and one point above the relegation zone.
