Firefighters were sent to put out another fire at a demolished clubhouse in Harwood last night.

Crews have been called out to the former Bolton Open Golf Club in Longsight Lane a number of times in the last four months, including to a fire just over a month ago.

Two engines from Bolton and Bolton North had to put out another blaze on the grounds of the course at midnight.

The fire, believed to have been deliberate, started in a pile of wooden beams removed from the clubhouse during demolition.

Watch manager Neil Mercer said: “It is possible it was deliberate.

“We couldn’t say for certain or not because it was at midnight, but it is one of a number of fires.

“There is just a series of ongoing issues at the site that we have had over the last three to four months.”

Crews were on the scene for half an hour putting out the flames and making the area safe.

Just over a month ago a group of teenagers set fire to wood left over from the demolition and youths from across Bolton are said to have been meeting at the old clubhouse to start fires.

Fire crews have also gone as far to send letters to parents asking them to make sure they knew where their children were at night.

In June 2015 the clubhouse was also targeted in a suspected arson which took firefighters three hours to put out.

Demolition work at Bolton Open Golf Club in Longsight Road, Harwood, started in May after Bolton Council gave the go-ahead to plans to build six homes on the site.
