AN MP says that the borough’s infrastructure “wouldn’t be able to cope” if a new championship golf course and a massive housing estate is built.

Chris Green is urging his constituents to have their say on Peel Holdings’ plans for the development of the Hulton Park Estate.

The Bolton West MP has previously campaigned against building on green spaces and is worried about the potential impact of the £240 million plans.

Mr Green said: “I have made my own views on this application absolutely clear: our roads, health service, schools and public transport are already creaking under the strain of too many houses as it is.

“With so many more extra cars on the road, we just wouldn’t be able to cope.

“These plans will have an impact right across Bolton West and Atherton and I believe that our corner of the Borough is already having more than its fair share of new housing.

“I also remain to be convinced by Peel that this golf course will actually go ahead.”

Despite receiving letters stating the deadline for lodging objections to the proposals was June 29, residents have been given longer to submit their views.

Bolton Council says it will accept representations up to the point the plans goes to the planning committee for a decision.
