RESIDENTS in High View and Eastgrove Avenue have told of their relief after travellers who camped near their homes for more than a week moved on.

The camp attracted numerous complaints about rubbish, verbal abuse, unsanitary behaviour and loud music, since the group arrived on Sunday, June 18.

Ward councillor Hilary Fairclough said their departure had been met with ‘absolute relief’. She added: “It was absolutely unacceptable and appalling. There were elderly ladies looking out of their back windows and having to look at men urinating. They weren’t even making an effort to keep low profile.”

And resident David Wrennall said he was ‘very sorry’ for the people who would now have to deal with the travellers . He said: “They left a lot of rubbish behind down the bank. There was a slow procession of vehicles going down the road and the last two left at 10 o’clock.

I am happy they are gone. Their generators made a non-stop din of noise all night and a caravan was parked right up behind my garden.”
