THE town centre skate park access is to be reassessed the council.
Cllr Zoe Kirk-Robinson raised the issue of pedestrians using the Great Moor Street park as a cut-through at Wednesday’s full council meeting.
She said that warning signs put in place last July had ‘no visible effect’ on the number of people taking a shortcut through the skate park between Morrisons and the town centre.

Cllr Kirk-Robinson requested that one of the entrances to the park be closed, adding: “Even when a number of skaters are using the park, pedestrians still walk through the middle of it.
“There have been accidents, there have been incidents where skaters have felt forced to jump off their skateboards in order to avoid colliding with pedestrians.
“It is only a matter of time before someone is badly injured.”
Responding to her request, Cllr John Byrne said that while the council could not close either entrance as they are needed as emergency exits, the authority would look at what improvements could be made at the site.
