TWO teenagers from Bolton have been arrested after a biker was killed in a car crash.

The pair of 18-year-olds were arrested by police in Blackpool on suspicion of causing death by careless driving and driving under the influence of drugs yesterday.

They were in a blue Vauxhall Astra that was involved in a collision with an orange Keeway motorbike and the motoryclist, a 46-year-old man from Blackpool, was knocked unconscious.

He was taken to Blackpool Victoria Hospital for treatment but was pronounced dead a short time later.

Police and the ambulance service attended the crash at around 4.25pm yesterday, following reports of an accident at the junction of Squires Gate Lane and Amy Johnson Way, a short distance from Blackpool Pleasure Beach.

The two teenagers were arrested at the scene and a further two men, also believed to have been in the Astra, fled the scene.

Police had to close the road for three hours to allow accident investigators to examine the area.

Police are appealing for information and urging anyone who witnessed the collision to contact officers.

Temporary sergeant, Lee Campbell, of Lancashire Police, said: “This is a tragic incident where a man has sadly died and my thoughts are with his family and friends at this time.

“An investigation to establish how the collision took place is already underway and we would appeal to any witnesses who have not yet spoken to call us.

“We are particularly keen to speak to anyone who saw either vehicle before the collision, or witnessed the incident, to contact us.”

The two Bolton men remain in custody.
