TWO people have been arrested, one on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent, after a man was taken to hospital with head injuries.

Police were called to a property in Winchester Way, Breightmet, at around 11.40am today to reports of an assault.  A man in his thirties had suffered head injuries and was taken to Royal Bolton Hospital.

A police spokesman said that the injuries are not thought to be critical.

Two people were arrested at the scene, a man on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent and a woman for an alleged common assault.

They both remain in custody.

An ambulance service spokesman confirmed they took a person from a private property to Royal Bolton Hospital for treatment.

Residents living close to the property, close to Aldercroft Avenue, were shocked to see police cars and paramedics at the scene.

One person, who did not wish to be named, said: "I just came out and saw the police cars and the CSI van.

"I did see someone was taken away in the ambulance sometime after 1pm and the police came door-to-door asking people what they saw.

"It was a bit scary, especially when I have a little baby. It is not very nice to see that happen."

Ronald Philburn, aged 89, who lives off Winchester Way, said: "I only saw the end of it. I just came back home and saw the police cars were parked in front of the house and the ambulance parked next to the house.

"But it was all done when I got here after 1pm and I saw the officers looking around the house.

"You do not usually see things like that happening here. I was just wondering what was going on."
