EXTRAS are being sought to appear in a new film by Oscar nominated director Mike Leigh.

Peterloo is set in Manchester and stars Bolton actress Maxine Peake.

A call has gone out for men and women aged 17-99 Years, of all ethnicities with natural coloured hair, no visible tattoos or piercings to be extras.

Casting is taking place over the summer in Lancashire, Lincoln, Kent and Essex.

Anyone signing up is asked to be reliable, friendly, enthusiastic, great at time keeping, flexible, polite, able to be at work very early, always professional and have good availability.

Leigh is best known for acclaimed big screen success like Vera Drake, Secrets & Lies, and Mr Turner.

His latest film will tell the story of the Peterloo Massacre in 1819, which left 15 people dead and upwards of 400 injured, after cavalry charged a protesting crowd of 60,000.

Last year Peake joined the annual commemoration of the massacre in Manchester City Centre, speaking about the importance of protest.

At St Peter’s Field, in 1819, the crowds were protesting voting rights and economic conditions after the Napoleonic Wars.

The battle of Waterloo, 1815, was the inspiration for the name of the incident.

The event is an important cultural turning point and also led to the creation of The Manchester Guardian, which became The Guardian.
