BOLTON lost its last remaining police custody suite this week.
The controversial decision to close the Scholey Street facility persuaded us to have a look through our files for old police station pictures.
Among the images is one of Bolton Central police station getting a £120,000 facelift in 1986.
Nearby, police in Radcliffe had already moved into a new £120,000 police station in 1985. This facility was recently sold.
Elsewhere we see a shot of the old town centre police office in Le Mans Crescent, as well as the Astley Bridge police station, unveiled in 1987 and costing £2 million.
It’s all a far cry from today’s cutbacks.
