VOLUNTEERS responsible for the town hall's cascading wall of poppies last year are urging communities to come up with their own creations for Remembrance Sunday.

Dramatic Action, a group of volunteers from Bolton At Home, used plastic bottles and netting to make the eye-catching display that adorned one side of the town hall steps in November, pictured above with the Caledonia Pipe Band.

Now they are looking for voluntary groups across Bolton to create something to put on display in their own communities for the week leading up to November 12.

Val Hulme, one of the volunteers, said: "Last year we created the display at the town hall, it was a big surprise to everyone.

"But now what we are trying to do is raise more awareness and to try to get groups to make their own poppy displays.

"They are all made out of bottles and I am happy to do a demonstration. It would be great for them to make something for their community.

"This is all about community groups coming together. It is a positive thing we are trying to do both to raise awareness and bring people together."

As well as creating the displays and paying tribute to the armed forces, Ms Hulme said she also wanted to raise awareness about the plight of refugees.

She said: "We want to talk about why people come to the country. It is not because they want to go. because they leave their home and their families behind.

"They are leaving because they are not safe. We want to dispel the myths that they are here by choice."
