THIS group of pals are friends a father — who suffered life changing injuries in the Manchester terror attack — can certainly count on.

Since the devastating bomb attack, friends — some of whom have not seen each other for many years — have got together to support Martin Hibbert

Over the long weekend, they gave up their bank holiday Sunday to embark on a 30 mile fundraising walk for Mr Hibbert, who suffered horrendous injuries leaving him paralysed and dependent on a wheelchair.

Mr Hibbert's brothers —Andy and Danny — also took part with other members of the family.

His story was one of those featured on a special programme on Tuesday night, Manchester 100 Days After The Attack.

It is the latest in a number of fundraising events organised by Mr Hibbert’s friends to support him financially as he focuses on his recovery.

The walk started at 7am at Edgworth Cricket Club, taking in some of the most picturesque places across the West Pennine Moors Winter Hill Mast, Rivington Pike and Darwen Tower, before heading back to the cricket club. They were sponsored by Matthew Gormley, a schoolfriend of Mr Hibbert, and his company Gourmazing.

Matt Eddleston, one of the walkers and organisers, said: “It took us 12 hours exactly to do the walk, starting at 7am and arriving back at Edgworth Cricket Club at 7pm.

“The majority of those taking part were schoolfriends of Martin, some had not seen each other for 20 years had travelled from other parts of the country to take part in the walk. Martin’s brothers also took part.

“It was a mixed bunch, there were some athletes and some none athletes and we took it steady.”

Mr Eddleston laughed: “We were not looking at breaking any world records. There were a few sore feet the next day and a few people hobbling.”

This Sunday a charity cricket match will take place with former Bolton Wanderers star Kevin Davies and ex-England cricketer Ronnie Irani are captaining two big name teams in a charity T20 match at 1pm. A number of Mr Hibbert’s friends will be taking part in the Manchester half marathon in October. To find out more and support the appeal visit https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/martinandevehibbert
