RUNNERS in Bolton's Race For Life are in for a treat - they will be cheered on by a group of hunky male cheerleaders.

The five-strong team have been recruited by the race's sponsors, Nivea, and will be wowing those taking part in the event at Leverhulme Park.

As well as carrying out a showstopping routine, Donovan Farquharson, Colin Da Silva, Evans Norley, Alex Salter and Montell Boley, will be trying to raise extra cash for Cancer Research UK by selling "big hands" - giant inflatable plastic hands.

Imogen Johnson, Bolton's race organiser, said: "We're delighted to have the Nivea cheerleaders coming along. They really get the crowd going as their routine is great fun to watch.

"I hope that they will give every woman taking part that extra push to get them over the finish line. We're really pleased with the support that Nivea have given to Race For Life this year."

A total of 3,672 women have signed up to take part in this year's Bolton Race For Life, which will be held at 11am and 2pm on Sunday.

Organisers are hopeful £260,000 will be raised for Cancer Research UK.

Commentary will start an hour before the run and there will be a warm up session, carried out by Val McKnight and Cuthrina Critchley from Rosemary Conley.

Bolton Harriers and the Greater Manchester Cadets will provide volunteer support on the day.

Ms Johnson said: "Despite it all being an all-female event, men are encouraged to come along to play an important supporting role. We are expecting a brilliant day and the supporters always add to the occasion."

Women are advised to get to the site early to avoid queues. Parking will be available at Tonge Fold football fields in Leverhulme Park, but spaces will be limited. Anyone who wants to volunteer should call 08702 401112.
