A 16-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a street stabbing.

Police received a report shortly after 8.50am today that a 17-year-old boy had been stabbed on Chorley Road, Swinton.

He was taken to hospital where he is being treated for multiple stab wounds and is in a stable condition.

Later this morning, at around 9am, policr were called to Swinton High School, on Sefton Road in Pendlebury, after two boys tried to gain entry to the school.

At the school officers discovered there was a boy in possession ofa knife.

Officers attended the school and a 15-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and remains in police custody for questioning.

Detectives are investigating and are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.

Chief Inspector Glenn Jones of GMP’s Salford Borough said: “Sadly a teenager has been stabbed today, and it is only fortunate that his injuries are not considered to be life-threatening.

“I know that this news will cause concern to people living in the area, particularly people with children at the school, and I want to assure you that we are working with the school and have launched a full investigation.
