A CAR left a trail of destruction as it crashed into a number of parked cars.
The Renault Scenic careered down Gibraltar Street, in Deane, at around 10am on Tuesday morning and damaged five parked cars.
It came to a stop when it slammed into the back of a stationary car.
Pictures show the car badly damaged alongside the vehicles it hit.
A white van can be seen with a large dent in its door and other cars suffered scratches and dents in the crash.
The Scenic’s wheel came off a few metres from where it eventually stopped.
When it went into the back of the parked car and came to a stop, it forced that car into the front of another vehicle, damaging them both.
Both of the airbags on the Scenic deployed when it crashed.
The car came from the direction of Board Street and crashed just after the junction with Ethel Street.
The driver remained at the scene following the crashes and officers found that he was not insured to drive the vehicle.
A police spokesman said: “The driver has been reported for driving without due car and attention and no insurance.”
The man has been sent court summons for the two offences.
A number of officers attended the scene and the road was blocked off while emergency services dealt with the incident.
The car was seized by police and taken away by a recovery vehicle.
The road was closed for a short time while police cleared up after the incident.
Many people saw the damage caused as they visited the nearby Pikes Lane Medical Centre. If the driver admits the offence or is found guilty, a court could hand him an unlimited fine for driving without due care and attention.
He also faces being disqualified from driving or three to nine points on his licence. He could also received a fixed fine of £300 and up to six penalty points for driving without insurance.
