A ONCE popular night-spot in Bolton has disappeared from the skyline after more than 90 years.

Demolition work on the former Palais de Danse and IKON has neared completion this week with the building now completely demolished.

For many it marks the end of an era for the town.

Heaton mum Catherine Booth walked past the building site most days and has spoken of her upset as seeing it vanish from the town.

The 49-year-old said: “I found it so heartbreaking to see it come down.

“My mum and dad used to dance at the Palais and if it weren’t for that I wouldn’t be here.

“I also used to go when it was Cinderella Rockerfellas and Ritzy’s.

“A lot of people in Bolton have stories like mine.

“We accepted it was going but it would have been nice to see it one more time.

“I managed to get one of the bricks from the original building, which has a bit of detail on it. It might seem silly but I’m happy to have it. It was part of my family history.”

The building and site belongs to the Moorgarth Group, which owns the Market place Shopping Centre.

Plans for the future of the site are yet to be established.
