BUILDING work has started on a new home for a pigeon racing club.

The Lancashire Homing Club is being rehoused from its current Lower Bridgeman Street base, next to the former Bolton Community College, to allow the site to be demolished to make way for a state-of-the-art Audi showroom.

The club will move into a new building at the back of the site in spring 2018.

In 2016, council chiefs and Public Sector PLC agreed to sell part of the old college site to premium car dealership Inchcape, one of the main dealers of Audi in the UK, who wanted to relocate from their existing premises on the Mill Hill Industrial Estate.

The new showroom and dealership will have space for more than 100 new and used cars, and will also offer servicing.

Cllr Cliff Morris, leader of Bolton Council, said: “We’re pleased to be able to create a new home for Lancashire Homing Club and also to facilitate this site being cleared for development. The newly cleared site will allow the new Audi dealership to be developed, close to the proposed Trinity Gateway, helping to revitalise a key gateway into the town centre.”
