FIREFIGHTERS are continuing to face problems in an area where they were pelted with stones.

As reported, crews came under attack last month as they attended a fire in Rumworth Park, off Willows Lane in Daubhill.

Last night a crew was called again to attend the park after youths tried to set fire to trees, the latest in a long line of incidents.

It is tying up fire service resources at one of the busiest times of the year.

Ian Reed, watch manager at Bolton Central fire station, said: "They set another fire, we've had umpteen fires over the last week.

"We need to be at other places, especially with bonfire night coming up.

"It's just the fact that we're always going up there. It is really draining our resources. If people need us, we need to be there.

"We're wasting our time when people could really need us."

The fire was reported at around 10pm but was out when crews arrived.

Youths had also been reported in the area but none were on the scene when firefighters got there.

As well as the problem with fires, Mr Reed said that mud piles have been thrown at cars and houses.

He said: "Residents are up in arms because they are just throwing mud piles at cars and at windows of houses.

"It is nothing to do with us but we are working with the police to deal with it.

"We are trying to get to the bottom of it with police. We're urging members of the public if they have got information to pass it to the police."
