AFTER suffering Post Natal Depression (PND) and being made redundant from her job last year, a mother in Sale is celebrating the successful first year of her business, This Mum Can.

Becca Broadbent, aged 34 is mother to five-year-old Chloe and two-year-old Harry.

After the birth of Chloe, Becca experienced PND and found that they key to her recovery was exercise. When she was made redundant from her HR role, while on maternity leave with her second child, she decided to set up the fitness group, This Mum Can.

She wanted to create a non-intimidating fitness community where mums could come and not only get back to mental and physical fitness, but also meet other mums socially.

She said: "While I was never officially diagnosed with PND, I struggled after my daughter was born – I was quite down and definitely lost myself for a few months, and put on over four stone in the process - I didn't feel like me at all.

“I've always enjoyed exercise and started running to lose weight, but found this also helped me both mentally and physically.

“After the birth of my second child, I was made redundant from my HR role - but this really gave me a chance to set up a business where I could help other mums from all walks of life, all with different experiences - perhaps including some who have had similar experiences to me.

“I've been surprised by how many mums I meet who have experienced PND, miscarriage or other traumatic experiences - so This Mum Can really aims to help mums create a sense of community, have fun and combat isolation - some come just have an hour to themselves, which is important.”

Becca retrained as a Level 2 Personal Trainer with a pre and post-natal specialism before launching the group and is now studying for her level 3 certification.

This Mum Can Fitness holds running clubs for mums and has accessible fitness classes in local parks throughout Sale, Altrincham and Urmston. To find out more information visit the Facebook page or the website: thismumcanfitness.co.uk
