HEATON Casuals produced the result of the weekend in Division Four of the BSF Over-35s League.
Their match – one of just two to survive the wet and windy weather on Sunday – was expected to be a close affair against Ainsworth B with the sides going into the game as joint leaders.
But there was nothing casual about Heaton as they swept Ainsworth aside with an emphatic 9-1 home win.
Gareth Hamilton scored for the visitors but Heaton’s Chris Sutcliffe scored four and Rob Walsh netted a hat-trick, while Tommy Cannon and Alan Westhead added one each.
The mauling drops Ainsworth B to fourth in the table on goal difference below Radcliffe Old Boys B and Bolton Wyresdale, both of whom have played fewer games.
The only other game came in Division One and it also produced goals aplenty as Manor Vets beat Salford Victoria 4-1. Anthony Weall score the solitary goal for Salford, but Leon Hamilton, Dave Fahey, Dean Goodridge and Lee Payne gave Manor Vets the victory.
The win moves Vets a couple of places up the table, but three teams below them have games in hand – notably Bamford Arms who have only played two games.
Next week’s fixtures are the Divisional Cup preliminaries for Divisions One and Two and the start of the round-robin games for Divisions Three and Four. There are also three rearranged league matches.
Results
Division One: Manor Vets 4 Salford Victoria 1.
Division Four: Heaton Casuals 9 Ainsworth B 1.
