Thousands of women have taken part in Bolton's Race For Life.

People of all ages ran, jogged or walked around the 5km course in Leverhulme Park.

They all had the same aim - to raise as much as possible for Cancer Research UK.

Eight-year-old Georgia Mort was wearing the coveted number on one her shirt, in memory of her beloved uncle Martin, who died of lung cancer last December aged just 34.

She was joined by her gran, May Shipperbottom, from Radcliffe, who was wearing the number two on her running shirt, as Martin died on December 2.

Mrs Shipperbottom said: "It's been an amazing day and I'm sure Martin would have been very proud."

Almost 4,000 women took part in the two races, which were held at 11am and 2pm.

Organisers are hoping to raise £260,000.

Don't miss tomorrow's The Bolton News for a special four-page pullout of the event.
