A MASS brawl erupted in the middle of Bradshawgate and left one man with a broken jaw.

Traffic had to swerve around the fight, which took place at around 4am on April 16 2016.

Khadar Arteh, Yohannes Berakhi, Peter Latham and Mohamed Yussuf all pleaded guilty to affray in relation to the event and were sentenced at Bolton Crown Court yesterday.

The court heard how a friend of Latham, Lucy Unsworth, had gone for a smoke outside Blind Tiger in Nelson Square when she was approached by Yussuf before Arteh came over and called her a 'sket'.

A heated discussion began to take place between the group Miss Unsworth was with and the group containing Yussuf and Arteh.

Latham, who was a friend of Miss Unsworth, can be seen on CCTV circling the group and then runs up and throws a punch at Arteh.

The brawl breaks out and moves into the middle of the road on Bradshawgate and a number of people can be seen throwing punches.

Judge Graeme Smith said Latham and Berakhi played serious roles in the brawl which left one man, Adam Macdonald, with a broken jaw.

Berakhi admitted punching Mr Macdonald while he was on the ground but did not cause the broken jaw.

Judge Smith also acknowledged how Berakhi and Yussuf had tried to play peacemaker prior to the fight breaking out.

Judge Smith said it was a 'nasty incident' and said alcohol played a key role in the fight.

He said: "This was a nasty incident. Three of you accept you had drank too much. The fourth accepts he also had quite a lot to drink."

Latham, aged 23 of Rose Lea in Harwood, was handed a 16 month prison sentence suspended for two years and Berakhi aged 30 of Boden Avenue in Fallowfield, was handed a 15 month sentence suspended for two years.

Arteh, aged 31 of Rawcliffe Street in Manchester and Yussuf, aged 24, of Ravenoak Avenue in Levenshulme were handed two years community orders.
