DELAYS in Tonge Moor Road are now expected to last at least one more day.

Rush hour traffic has been held up due to roadworks in Folds Road since Thursday last week.

United Utilities expected work to fix a leaking water main under the road to be completed yesterday.

However, another leak has since sprung up just metres away from the original burst, causing prolonged disruption for motorists.

United Utilites now hope work to repair the second leak will be finished tomorrow.

A spokesperson said: "We’ve been repairing a leak on a water main which runs under Folds Road, Bolton. The work has taken slightly longer than expected and our aim is to have the site cleared by tomorrow evening (Thursday, January 11).

"We apologise for any inconvenience."

Rush-hour traffic has been queueing past the Turton Road junction as motorists try to make their way into the town centre.

The road works are now situated on the town centre-bound lane, near where Tonge Moor Road becomes Folds Road.
