YOUNG homeless people are putting on a ' back in the day'-themed fashion show to raise money for victims of domestic violence.

They will take to the catwalk sporting the styles of yesteryear to the sounds of the last five decades.

And there will also be information on the key events of the era that the clothes belong to.

The youngsters, who are currently being supported by Bolton Young Persons Housing Scheme, are raising money for two Bolton charities — women's refuge Fortalice, and Endeavour, which supports women and children experiencing domestic abuse.

Susan Holt, BYPHS project manager says that despite their own difficult circumstances, the young people are passionate about raising money for their chosen charities.

She said: "It's good to see young people putting some effort into something and enjoying themselves and at the same time raising money for two worthwhile causes.

"Children are involved in the work of both of those charities, and our young people felt that's what they would like to raise money for."

And she adds that the youngsters have put a lot of work into the show, including sourcing many of the clothes, themselves.

She continued: "I'm hoping it will be quite interesting to see the different fashions through the decades, and for some of us to relive those fashions — and the music as well.

"A number of they young people were born in the 2000s or late 1990s. They're going about 50 years back with the show, and it's interesting for them to see how much things have changed — or if they have remained much the same for young people over that period of time."

And Susan says the show also provides an opportunity for the youngsters to demonstrate their talents.

She said: "All our young people have been referred to us as homeless. They are vulnerable young people with a variety of different needs.

"In our accommodation we are supporting them to get back into education or develop skills so that they can live independently in the community. This also showcases their abilities and that they are valuable members of society."

The retro fashion show takes place at Friend's Meeting House, 50 Silverstone Street, Bolton town centre, on Thursday, February 22.

Doors open at 5pm for a 5.30pm start.

Tickets are £5 for children and £2.50 for children. To book call Sue Holt on 01204 520183 or email sue@byphs.org.uk
