OUR weekly hunt through the photographic archives this week led us to a file marked simply: ‘roads’.
We found plenty of interesting images inside, including the eerie case of the Topp Way skeleton.
The human remains were found inside a coffin by workmen excavating the area as part of the £4 million inner relief road scheme in 1988.
Elsewhere we see an interesting picture of the Farnworth-Kearsley bypass under construction, as well as road planning machine that was scaring children in 1970 due to its uncanny resemblance to a dragon.
