MORE than 100 people gathered today to release balloons in memory of the four children who died in a house fire in Walkden last year.
The event was held in St Mary's Park not far from Jackson Street where Demi Pearson, aged 15, Brandon Pearson, aged eight, Lacie Pearson, aged seven and three-year-old Lia Pearson lived.
Each person at the event was given a pink or blue balloon which they released into the air from the centre of the park.
The gesture was followed by a touching moment of silence, while the onlookers listened to music and reflected.
Michelle Pearson, aged 35, mother of the children, remains in hospital with injuries suffered during the fire, her sister Claire Pearson organised the event.
She said: "It's amazing how much support we have had. I never thought there would be so many people showing up today.
"After five months I didn't think people would still be here, showing their support."
Zac Bolland, aged 23, of Blackleach Drive, Walkden, Courtney Brierley, aged 20, of Worsley Avenue, Worsley and David Worrall, aged 26, of Worsley Avenue, Worsley, are currently appearing in court charged with four counts of murder in relation to the fire.
